A rare, well preserved hand-painted engraving of two South American bats. Engraved by the French illustrator Auguste Duménil after original drawings by the French zoological illustrator Jean-Charles Werner (1798-1856) and by the explorer and zoologist Alcide d'Orbigny himself. This print in excellent condition. Very faint occasional spotting. Frayed at left hand side edge and a bit thumbed at lower edge. No creases, dents or tears. Nissen ZBI, 3021.
