Frémy, P.
Les cyanophycées des côtes d'Europe.
Saint-Lo, Société Nationale des Sciences Naturelles et Mathématiques de Cherbourg, 1934. 8vo (24.3 x 15.9 cm). 234 pp.; 66 fine plates. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt ornamented head and foot, gilt bordered red morocco label with gilt title. Original printed front wrapper preserved.
Important and very rare contribution to the Cyanophyceae (Myxophyceae), a phylum of bacteria that obtain their energy through photosynthesis, with clear keys and descriptions, and including new species by the French botanist Abbé Pierre Frémy (1880-1944, victim of a D-Day bombing raid). This work seems to be originally published in the society's Mémoires between 1929-1933. Stafleu noted: "almost certainly published as a whole in 1933". However, the original wrapper of this copy states that it is an offprint from the society's Mémoirs volume 41, and is dated 1934. There is an Asher reprinted edition which, however, is rare too. With some light pencil annotations in the text and on a few plates. A very good copy in a nice binding. Stafleu and Cowan, 1854.
