The only botanical contribution by the renowned German anthropologist Johann Carl Fuhlrott (1803-1877), who is famous for describing the first "Neanderthaler" and being one of the founders of palaeoanthropology. This work has a preface by the influential German botanist Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck (1776-1858). Binding a bit rubbed, mainly at the corners. Old library stamp on title page. Scattered, sometimes extensive but usually rather light foxing throughout. Rare. Stafleu and Cowan, 1917.
