Frankfurt am Main, Christian Winter (Senckenbergische Naturforschende Gesellschaft, [1878]-1879. 4to (28.8 x 22.2 cm). 171 pp.; 23 fine lithographed plates. Original front wrapper with mounted printed label bound in.

Rare (when complete) monograph on, partly newly discovered, land Mollusca from Japan. Well-illustrated. Published in two parts, of which the second, with more plates and the all-important index and errata is quite rare. The first part was published as Fauna Japonica extramarina. Nach den von Professor Rein gemachten Sammlungen (text of half-title), but the work was concluded under the title given above. Originally published in Senckenberg Institute's Abhandlungen, of which this is a consolidated offprint. A peculiar fact: on pages 97-104, the original journal page numbers were printed, removed, and replaced with newly printed, correct numbers. From page 105 onwards, the offprint has the offprint's page numbers correctly printed again. Provenance: the stamp of the American malacologist and malaco-historian Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the title page. Some toning to the text and a few plates lightly spotted, otherwise very good, complete, in a good binding. We found no auction records. Nissen ZBI, 2240.
