Paris, Gide et Comp., 1846. Large 4to (30.5 x 23.3 cm). xxxxvii, 312 pp.; 21 lithographed plates. Turn of the 20th century full embossed cloth. Gilt title on the spine. Brown endpapers, speckled edges.

The first illustrated monograph of the Foraminifera of the Vienna Basin Tertiary, and one of d'Orbigny's most important contributions to the European Neogene. It is especially important for its description of many new species. This is the rare original, not the later reprint. The fine illustrations are very detailed. The work is entirely bilingual: German-French. A wide-margin copy. Very neatly bound by A. Freisinger in Graz. Plates mildly foxed (stronger on the first and last plate); the text nearly completely clean, which is unusual. A very good copy. Nissen ZBI, 3017.
