Lipsiae, I. G. Müller und Gleditsch, 1788-1800. Three parts in four (20.1 x 12.3 cm). 8vo. 2,393 pp. [I(1788): xvi, 560, (viii); II(1)(1789): ii, 624; II(2)(1793) 593, (i); III(1800): viii, 578, (iii)]. Contemporary near uniform marbled boards. Spines with handwritten paper label. Speckled edges.

Complete as published and rare, especially in a complete state as publication took many years. The last volume was published by Gleditsch. The projected part 2 of volume 3, which was to have contained the lichens and fungi, was never published. A second edition, published in 1827, was titled Enumeratio plantarum phaenogamarum in Germania sponte nascentium. Albert or Albrecht Wilhelm Roth (1757-1834) was a German botanist and gardener. "His botanical research and writings came to the attention of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), who recommended Roth to a position at the botanical institute at the University of Jena" (Wikipedia). He designed and developed a large garden which still exists, as the town garden of Vegesack, near Bremen. Minor rubbing to the boards and spines; internally a very good, clean set. Very rare, only two auction records found in the last 40 years. Stafleu and Cowan, 9628.
