Four lithographed plates (of which two in chromolithography, one large and folded, and one tinted); one very large, full colour map with overlay. Original wrappers printed in red and black.
A festschrift on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Amsterdam Zoo, Aquarium and Zoölogical Museum (today still known as 'Artis'). It contains the text of a speech by Professor Dr B. J. Stokvis, and six other contributions, as follows: Maitland, R. T., Ontstaan en Bloei van het Genootschap, with a fine, triple-sized chromolithographed map of the zoo, with a printed transparent overlay, indicating the various enlargements, with their dates and surface areas; Kerbert, C., Het Aquarium (with one photographic plate of the aquarium building and a folded plan of the building); Swierstra, K. N., Naamlijst van de Levende Dieren, 1838-1880; Koller, H., Naamlijst van de Nederlandsche Vogels; Weber, M., Mededelingen over Zoogdieren, met twee platen, including a fine chromolithographed plate of the maned wolf, Canis jubatus (now Chrysocyon brachyurus); Oudemans, J. T. De Nederlandsche Macrolepidoptera. Pagination of each paper starts anew. This is a heavy book, and therefore the binding has become weak – in particular the rear wrapper and preceding gatherings are near detached. Spines chipped at ends, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Rare. Nissen ZBI, 4597.
