A peculiar, detailed work on moles, translated by Johann Peter Eichhof. The original French edition by Clément de la Faille, or LaFaille (1718-1782) was published in 1769 in La Rochelle, as Essai sur l'histoire naturelle de la taupe. This work was dedicated to Johann Wilhelm Karl Adolph Freyherrn von Hüpsch, who, like de la Faille, was a naturalist and palaeontologist. One plate shows a "Canadian" mole (star-nosed mole, Condylura cristata), the other an ingenious device for extirpating moles. Library stamp on title from the "Fürstensteiner Bibliothek". Rare.
