Paris, Masson, 1922. In two parts. 8vo (23.5 x 15.3 cm). xxv, 656 pp.; xii, 864 pp.; 17 plates (five in colour), 521 figures. Contemporary uniform half calf over marbled boards. Gilt title on the spines.

A fine complete copy of this great classic on venomous animals. Volume II is near entirely on amphibians and reptiles and has several fine full-colour illustrations. A short section is on the only venomous mammal known. Volume I deals mainly with invertebrates, including molluscs, scorpions, and insects, as well as fishes. All but one of the coloured plates are in the herpetological section. Marie Félicie Phisalix, née Picot (1861-1946) was for many years the herpetological specialist at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris. Spines a bit sunned, otherwise a very good, clean, unspotted, and nicely bound set. Adler III, pp. 158-160.
