Seattle, WA, The Occidental Publishing Co., 1909. In two volumes. Large 4to (31.5 x 24.5 cm). xv, iii, 1,012 pp.; 45 plates including two frontispieces (original photo, mounted and with printed tissue guard), and including 16 colour plates after watercolours of A. Brooks, 300 text figures. Uniform original boards. Spine with original printed labels. Decorated endpapers. Rare first large paper edition, limited to 200 numbered copies of which this is no. 158. In total 372 different species of birds are extensively described and finely illustrated. The first volume signed by Dawson, the second with, mounted on the first blank recto, a handwritten card signed by the first author: "May the migration westward occur soon and often". Includes numerous very fine photographs, mounted, and all with printed tissue guards. Nissen quotes 70 plates in error. A simpler edition was published simultaneously, in 1,050 copies. Confusingly, there are other ‘limited’ editions on the market, such as the "Patron's edition", "British Columbia Edition", and "Limited edition of 350 copies" but those are not this original, large paper edition. Slight shelf-wear to extremities, otherwise a fine set. Nissen IVB, 224. The true first large paper edition
