Leipzig, Guillaume [Wilhelm] Engelmann, 1844. Large 4to (33.8 x 26.5 cm). [i], 83 pp., 42 fine lithographed plates (I-XL; and one unnumbered plate "XIXbis") of which 40 in chromolithography, and several larger, folded. Contemporary dark green half calf over dark green grained boards. Spine with gilt bands and title. Green speckled edges. An important contribution with many new species, based on well-preserved specimens. Some plates are very large, double folded. See DSB: "Wilhelm Philipp Schimper (1808-1880), Professor für Naturgeschichte in Strassburg und Direktor des Naturhistorischen Museums Strassburg made important contributions to palaeobotany, especially on the Triassic flora of the Vosges". Co-author [Joseph] Antoine Mougeot (1815-1889) wrote mainly on the extant flora of the Vosges region. This work is dedicated to the father of Mougeot, Jean Baptiste (1776-1858), an important botanist himself. Rectangular paper cut and repair on the title page, not touching the text; as usual, some plates foxed but mostly in the margins. DSB 12, p. 169; Nissen BBI, 1760; Stafleu and Cowan, 10.678. A rare and important contribution to palaeobotany
