Bruxelles, Hayez, 1873. 4to (29.0 x 22.7 cm). 92 pp.; 12 tinted lithographed plates. Original printed wrappers. Description of a well-preserved flora and including many new species (the great majority), some described by Ettingshausen, Unger, Heer, or others. This is a rare offprint, with a new title page. Nicely illustrated. This flora is of Palaeocene age (ca. 58 MYBP) and amongst the best preserved from that epoch. Louis Charles Joseph Gaston Marquis de Saporta (1823-1895) was a great specialist in fossil plants. Apart from strictly descriptive taxonomical works, he wrote extensively about the origin and palaeontology of plants. Uncut. Signed, unclearly, by the (first?) author in the top margin of the half-title. Spine reinforced with white tape, repairs to the top and bottom margin of the title and half-title; otherwise good with mostly clean plates. Stafleu and Cowan, 10.269. Description of a well-preserved Palaeocene flora
