Item ID 69197
Leipzig, E. Haberland, 1899. Folio (48.0 x 32.0 cm). Title page, [i], vii pp; 19 (of 20) nature-printed plates in green or reddish brown. Original half-linen portfolio with printed front board and floral-patterned endpapers. Fedor Alexis Flinzer (1832-1911) "was an author, educator and one of the greatest German illustrators of the Gründerzeit, who was called Raphael of Cats" (Wikipedia). Apparently, he was also interested in botany, and an experimenter in printing-techniques as well. This is one of his least-known works, perhaps being printed in low numbers. Lacks plate 12. Some edges a bit frayed, with a few short tears. Boards a bit soiled, otherwise in very good condition. This work should not be confused with a similar-titled work by F. Woenig (1881) with far more text but without nature-printed plates. Boards rather worn; some pencil marks. A few short, marginal tears and creasing to a few plates. Very rare. Nissen BBI, 638. Not in Fischer. A little-known nature-printing work, missed by Fischer
