A very rare but influential treatise on the theory of colours with many fine examples of applied colours. The author, [Daniel] Auguste Rosenstiehl (1839-1916) was a chemist, and the director of a factory of coloured material, as well as a professor at the "Conservatoire national des Arts et Métiers" in Paris. Uncut, with the original wrappers. Weak private owner's stamp in the lower margin of the front wrapper recto, and date stamp on verso, otherwise clean. A very good copy.
