Wien, "the publishers" [sic], 1832. Two parts in two. Small 8vo (16.5 x 10.5 cm). 812 pp. (xxxii, 352; 416, [xii]); 96 originally hand-coloured plates [I-XLIV; I-LII]. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Two engraved, pictorial titles. Uniform 19th-century full linen. Spines with gilt title on red, gilt-bordered leather label.

The complete ichthyology, and fishing, of a series of natural history works titled "Natural History stories", renowned for its plates, as much as for its texts, if not more so. Written by the German naturalist Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelm (1758-1811). This is the complete, second, unaltered edition, printed in Vienna. Many plates do not only show fish species, but also fishermen in action, showing different fishing techniques, e.g., trawling. A French edition was published too. Provenance: pictorial bookplate of the Swiss zoologist Christian Sigrist mounted on the front pastedowns. Boards with some light age-wear. Minimal spotting, here and there; the plates clean. The colouring is strong and very bright. Dean II, p. 630; Nissen ZBI 4408.
