Amsterdam, not published, ca. 1750. Folio (42.1 x 28.5 cm). Full vellum. 38 laid paper leaves. Both boards with rich-gilt floral borders, gilt cornerpieces with the Amsterdam coat of arms, and large gilt floral vignette with the coat of arms of Amsterdam below the Amsterdam maiden (' Stedemaagd') and cherubim. Spine with gilt floral bands and vignettes with the Amsterdam coat of arms. Edges mottled red and blue. Green silk straps.

Probably used, or intended, as a ledger, as each leaf is divided by four vertical lines in red ink. It is unclear if this book was used in a municipal office, or by an Amsterdam merchant. The Stedemaagd is a personification of the city of Amsterdam. A version of her is present in a tympanum of the 17th-century Royal Palace (formerly city hall) on Dam square. The floral patterns are in Louis XV style, suggesting a dating around 1750. Six leaves, all placed in front, with annotations in ink, were removed long time ago. Small parts of the inner margin remain; boards showing very light signs of use, otherwise in very good condition. A unique item.
