Jaarbericht van het Vooraziatisch-Egyptisch Gezelschap Ex Oriente Lux. Volumes 1-29 (1938-1987).
Leiden, E. J. Brill, 1938-1987. 29 volumes in 12. Large 8vo (26.6 x 20.7 cm). Text and numerous pages, plates and text illustrations. Uniform green buckram. Front boards and spines with gilt title and gilt vignette. Last six volumes in issues, with original printed wrappers.
Rare, very long uninterrupted run, from the start, of this important periodical on archaeology. The society, Ex Oriente Lux (officially: Vooraziaatisch-Egyptisch Genootschap “Ex Oriente Lux”) is a Dutch society that aims to transfer knowledge of the civilizations of the Ancient Near East (ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, countries of the Bible) to a wide audience. Founded in 1933, it still publishes both scientific publications, and magazines and books for the general public. Papers are written in Dutch (mostly in the early volumes), English (mainly in the later volumes), French, and German. The earlier volumes in nice, uniform bindings. A very good, clean set.
