Contemporary full mottled calf. Spine with gilt lines and small vignettes; dark red morocco label with gilt title. Marbled enbdpapers. Edges speckled dark blue.

A seldom seen work on mosses by the French born Belgian botanist Noel [Martin] Joseph de Necker (1730-1793). The attractive title vignette depicts a peculiar half-man half-plant figure, surrounded by highly enlarged mosses. Provenance: with on the front pastedown the, beautiful, pictiorial - Jugendstil - bookplate of The Horticultural Society of New York, Bequest of Kenneth K. MacKenzie October 1934, next to small booksellers label of Librairie Jacques Lechevalier in Paris. Boards rubbed at edges and outer joints, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Stafleu and Cowan 6667.
