Virchow, R.
Die Urbevölkerung Europa´s. [Rare offprint].
Berlin, C. B. Lüderitz (Carl Habel), 1874. 8vo (20.5 x 14.0 cm). Title page, 48 pp. Somewhat later boards with on the front board a mounted label with title in an old hand.
An interesting anthropological contribution on European prehistory by the great German physician, anthropologist and ethnographer Rudolf Ludwig Carl Virchow (1821-1902). "Few great men have been privileged to perceive more clearly the fruits of their labors in the autumn of their lives than Virchov. In less than half a century Germany had progressed from speculative and philosophical healing to become the world center of modern scientific medicine, and Virchow had played a decisive role in this crucial transformation" (DSB). A rare offprint, perhaps from the Sammlung gemeinverständlicher Vortrage. DSB 14, p. 39-42.
