Paris, Turgis Fils, [1890-1898]. Six works in six. Oblong small folio (14.1 x 22.0 cm). 96 lithographed plates of which 80 polychromatic in 15 colours. Uniform quarter cloth over pictorial full-colour boards.

A fine suite of 2000 years of beautifully coloured ornamental designs. The colours are rich and diverse. Fifteen different colours are used, including silver and gold. Little is known about the author, Ernest Guillot. Obviously he was a designer and engraver. The volume dealing with alphabets has 16 b/w plates and one full-colour plate. The volume covering the 17th and 18th-century deals with the styles Louis XIII to Louis XVI. The one covering the 16th century has 15 plates. The works are not dated. A volume covering the 15th century is not present. Small label on the front boards. Headers partly shaved; some rubbing and soiling to the boards and margins, a few small defects due to use, otherwise a very good, clean and attractive set. Not in Scheider-Henn, who only mentions Guillot's Les insectes.
