A well-illustrated work, describing rare and seldom-seen molluscs (cephalopods, gastropods and bivalves), and crustaceans (crabs, lobsters, shrimps) of possible economic importance. The text is in Japanese and English. The crustacean part is slightly larger than the molluscan part. Oddly, a few species are not from the Western Atlantic at all, but from the Indian Ocean, because in part of the material both the latitude and longitude were unintentionally reversed. This only came to light when it was noted that some localities had coordinates situating them near or even on Trinidad. In reality, they were from Saya de Malha Bank, northeast of Mauritius and southeast of Seychelles. Added: a letter, dated February 1, 1984 announcing Okutani's promotion and move to another institution. Inscribed by Okutani on the title page, being a dedication to the leading Conidae specialist of the second half of the 20th, and early years of the 21st century, Alan Jacob Kohn (1931-2022), and with the latter's name written in the top margin of the front free endpaper recto. Small chip to the lower edge of the transparent wrapper, otherwise very good, as new.
