Berlin, R. Friedländer & Sohn, 1908. Large 4to (33.2 x 27.0 cm). vii, 226 pp.; 13 text engravings, 11 lithographed plates, all but one larger, mostly double-sized; three in fine chromolithography, one tinted. Original printed wrappers.

This part written by the Italian zoologist Umberto Pierantoni (1876-1958). The work deals with archiannelid worms - closely resembling some nudibranch molluscs, and is well-illustrated. There are two title pages, viz. the one quoted above, and a second, simply stating Protodrilus. Monografia di Umberto Pierantoni. The availability of single monographs explains the double title pages, namely one for the series part, and one for the volume as such. Uncut. Slight, marginal foxing, to a few leaves and some fraying to the lower margin of the wrappers and first text leaves, otherwise an impeccable copy. Rare. Nissen ZBI, 3181 and 4632.
