London, The Royal Society, 1760. 4to (22.0 x 17.2 cm). Five pp.; two large, double-folded engraved plates. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with five raised bands.

A detailed description of a frog sent to the medical doctor John Fothergill in London and examined by the British naturalist - principally ornithologist - and Copley Medal winner George Edwards (1694-1773). The paper leans heavily on the descriptions of these frogs by Maria Sibylla Merian. Contained in the Philosophical Transactions, Volume 51, Part II, with unrelated scientific papers, including works on zoology. Boards and spine rubbed, front board detached. Slight offsetting from the plates to the text, otherwise in very good condition. Rare. Not in any major bibliography.
