Zittau, Johann Gottfried Seyfert (for the Oberlausitzischen Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften), 1833. 8vo (18.6 x 11.9 cm). 166 pp.; two large, folded lithographed and hand-coloured plates. Later pebbled half cloth over marbled board. Spine with gilt title. Red edges.

A rare, well-illustrated work on the land and freshwater molluscs of a region in southeastern Germany and adjacent Poland. Written by the German lawyer, historian and malacologist Johann Gottfried Neumann (1755-1834). Published in a seldom-seen periodical, Das Neue Lausitzische Magazin, but this is an even rarer offprint, with a new title. Pages 165-166 contain an addition to p. 117. Pages 135-142 contain Ein kleiner Beitrag zur Naturgeschichte Schlesisch-Lausitzischer Würmer by Neumann. Spotted throughout. A former private owner's signature, "Schroefel", dated 28.4.1904 on the front free endpaper recto, and a stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the title page. Neither in Cat. BM(NH) nor in Nissen.
