Cossmann, M.
Mollusques éocéniques de la Loire-Inférieure. Tome 3e. Fascicules I-III. 1904-1906; Supplément, Deuxième Supplément.
Nantes, Société des Sciences naturelles de l'Ouest de la France, 1904-1906, 1915-1919-1922. 8vo (23.5 x 15.7 cm). 478 pp.; 27 phototype plates with explanatory text leaves. Later green buckram with gilt title on the spine.
This rarely seen section of Cossmann's grand work on the Eocene malacofaunas of the Loire region in western France deals almost exclusively with bivalves, and may be regarded as complete for the Class Bivalvia. In the supplements, however, as well as additional bivalves, a large number of additional (mostly new) gastropods - otherwise treated in Volumes 1 and 2 of this series - are included. The last part was published shortly before the author's death. Collation is as follows: Tome III Fasc. I (1904): pp. 1-68; Plates. I-VIII; Fasc. II (1905): pp. 69-124; Plates. IX-XIV; Fasc. III (1906): pp.125-208, i-xliv; Plates. XV-XX (concluding the third volume). [Premier] supplément ([1915]-1919): pp. 1-89; Plates. I-IV; deuxième Supplement (1921): pp. 1-24; 25-76 ["fin"]; Plates V; VI-VII. Provenance: stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper and first half-title. Second supplement bound in before first, its front wrapper and first two text leaves creased, otherwise very good.
