According the writer the first comprehensive work on German non-marine molluscs since the work of C. Pfeiffer (1821-1828). The copy of the influential French malacologist Joseph Charles Hippolyte Crosse (1826-1898), purchased at the sale of his library in 1899 by the French geologist and palaeontologist Émile Chelot (1862-1930) (signed note in the top corner of the front free endpaper verso). Also, with a stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the title page. The reference list contains many additional titles in an old hand.
