Paris, J. B. Baillière, 1849. 8vo (23.0 x 15.3 cm). 209 [iv (index)] pp.; four tissue-guarded hand-coloured lithographed plates, heightened with gum arabic. Contemporary half morocco over pebbled boards. Spine with gilt four raised bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers.

One of the 19th-century publications on French local faunas. This one covers the rich non-marine malacofauna north of the Pyrenees, and is much better illustrated and of more scientific importance than most. The French malacologist Jean Gassies (1816-1883) mainly studied the French continental fauna and is the author of many new species. A nicely bound, clean copy. Caprotti II, p. 27 [191]. Not in Nissen ZBI.
