A nice suite of large illustrations of songbirds - mainly Eurasian tits and nuthatches - by the famous Dutch bird illustrator John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912). Each numbered in the left top corner, as follows: 96, fantail warbler; 101, hedge sparrow; 102 Calamophilus biarmicus; 103, British long-tailed titmouse; 104, long-tailed titmouse; 107, Algerian coal-titmouse, English coal-titmouse and European coal-titmouse; 108, Parus palustris; 109, marsh titmouse and northern marsh titmouse; 110, Siberian marsh titmouse; 111, sombre titmouse; 114 azure titmouse; 115, Lophophanes cristatus; 117, chestnut crowned titmouse; 118, northern nuthatch; 119, common nuthatch; 120, Syrian nuthatch; 121, Krüper's nuthatch; 122, tree creeper; 123, wall-creeper; 124, common wren and northern wren; 175, hawfinch; 181, Alpine snowfinch. The gilt top edge indicates that this set once formed part of a bound volume. A few plates a bit chipped at the margins, but generally in very good condition.
