Paris, G. Masson, 1890. Large 8vo (25.3 x 16.2 cm). xvi, 395 pp.; one plate, 164 text engravings. Original printed wrappers.

A great classic, by the French scientist and expert in avian motion, Étienne Jules Marey (1839-1904), in the history of avian motion, bionics, physiology, and even cinematography because of the use of Marey's 'photographic gun', which created images like those in the well-known works of Muybridge. The half title verso contains a list of other works by Marey. The errata leaf follows p. 394. Uncut. Some light damage to the paper spine cover, otherwise a very good, unmarked, clean copy. Ronsil, p. 323.
