Suess, Eduard
[Portrait].
No place, no date [but ca. 1895]. Large broadsheet (74.0 x 50.0 cm) on thick paper, lithographed. Printed surface 39.3 x 26.2 cm.
A large portrait of the Austrian geologist Eduard Suess (1831-1914). He is responsible for hypothesising two major former geographical features: the supercontinent Gondwana (proposed in 1861) and the Tethys Ocean. Suess is considered one of the early practitioners of ecology. The Suess craters on the Moon and Mars are named after him (Wikipedia). Print with extremely wide margins. Some soiling and spotting in the margins, the printed image clean. A very good copy.
