Uzès, Miscellanea Entomologica, 1920. 8vo (24.0 x 15.7 cm). xii, 472 pp., 799 [220, 465, 16, 17, 71, 7, 3] text engravings. Near contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with four raised, gilt-chained bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers.

A rare work by the French entomologist Eugène Barthe (1862-1945), being the first part of the Faune Franco-Rhenane-series published in the Miscellanea Entomologica of which he was the founder and principal editor. This is the general introduction, with keys to the families and groups of the Adephaga and Polyphaga, followed by detailed keys and descriptions of the genera and species of the following eight families: I Cicindelidae (pp. 35-47); II Carabidae (pp. 48-353); III Haliplidae (pp. 353-363); IV Hygrobiidae (pp. 363-364); V Dytiscidae (pp. 364-434); VI Gyrinidae; VII Rhysodidae; VIII Paussidae. "Hyphydridae" (p. 399) is an error for Hyphydrinae. It contains descriptions and illustrations of whole animals and taxonomically important parts of adult specimens. Included are descriptions of the general characters, tables to the genera, subgenera and species, a bibliography and index. Small gap in the lower margin of pp. 165-166, pp. 371-368 erroneously bound after p. 402, otherwise a very good, clean and well-bound copy.
