A fine set of splendid illustrations from the most beautifully illustrated work on citrus fruits ever, by the French pharmacist, botanist, malacologist and geologist Joseph Antoine Risso (1777-1845) in cooperation with the French illustrator Pierre Antoine Poiteau (1766-1854). "It contains exquisite drawings of every variety of orange, lemon and grapefruit, and their congeners... A beautiful and inspiring work" (Sitwell). Originally coloured copies, such as in this set, are utterly rare and expensive. A very good, clean set. Nissen, BBI 1640; Sitwell-Blunt, 73; Stafleu and Cowan, 9248.
