Rare set from the start of this early natural history society containing several contributions by "The Pliny of Dantzig", Jacob Theodor Klein (1685-1759) such as: Cancer Quasimodogenitus oder nackter Taschenkrebs aus der Insel Wightwith three fine engravings, and other contributions by the same author on Von Schaalthieren, Vom Bau der Schneckenschaalen, Steinartige See-Gewächse, Das Fische weder stumm noch taub sind, etc. Most plates in Volume II show crustaceans; one shows echinoderms. One fine plate is on lenses and glasses ( Erörterung eines optischen Versuches vom Pater Schneiner, by Heinrich Jacob de la Motte (1712-1783). In 1756 a third volume was published (not present) and after Klein's death this periodical was succeeded by Neue Sammlung von Versuchen und Abhandlungen... Volume II uncut. Boards worn, with paper loss to one spine. Some foxing in the text, old stamps on titles, minor, mostly marginal worming in the first volume. Otherwise a very good set. Cat.
