Pilgrim, G. E.
The Fossil Bovidae of India.
Calcutta [Kolkata], The Geological Survey of India, 1939. Large 4to (36.1 x 27.0 cm). 356 pp.; seven plates, one folded diagram. Near contemporary half calf over linen boards. Front board with paper label; red endpapers, bluish blanks. Original printed wrappers bound in.
A seldom-seen, important paper on Indian and related bovids, by the British vertebrate zoologist and palaeontologist Guy Ellcock Pilgrim (1875-1943). "He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and Superintendent of the Geological Survey of India, and made significant contributions to Cenozoic continental stratigraphy and vertebrate palaeontology" (Wikipedia). Published in the Survey's Memoirs, or Paleontographica Indica, New Series Volume 26(1). Especially rare when bound and without library markings, such as this copy. Some mild wear to the boards and corners, small repair to spine cover; endpapers a bit smudged, otherwise very good, clean.
