Miquel, F.
De Noord-Nederlandsche vergiftige gewassen. Met gekleurde platen.
Amsterdam, C. G. Sulpke, 1836. 8vo (22.5 x 13.2 cm). 198 pp.; 30 originally hand-coloured lithographed plates. Original printed boards.
First edition. This excellent, well-illustrated monograph by the Dutch botanist of German descent, Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel (1811-1871) is one of the first books on poisonous plants of the Netherlands and describes over 190 plants with analysis of their toxic properties. As Landwehr (p. 146) points out, there is no folio edition as erroneously reported by Pritzel and Nissen. "Noord-Nederland" should be read as the whole of The Netherlands as it is today. Light damp stain on the bottom of the first few text pages, but not obtrusive and otherwise a very good copy, all plates clean. Rare in the original printed boards, which are in a very good state - hardly rubbed at all. Landwehr, 140; Nissen BBI, 6257; Stafleu and Cowan 6088.
