Aluminium Foil Samples
Aluminium-Folien. [Trade Catalogues].
Munich, Metallpapier- Bronzefarben- Blattmetallwerke Aktiengesellschaft München, ca. 1930-1938. Six items including two oblong booklets (10.5 x 14.7 cm). Each with a title leaf and ca. 75 numbered aluminium foil leaves, each either in silver or gold, or another metallic sheen, glossy or matt, and a catalogue number. Near-uniform covers; one in silver the other in "gold", and both with a printed sticker of the Amsterdam firm Hans Prell.
A varied collection of aluminium or "tin" foil samples. In sample booklets from the 1930s. Johann Ludwig "Hans" Prell (1883-1934) and his son, Hans Heinrich Prell were publishers in Amsterdam. A third similar item is much larger, 15 x 21 cm, and contains "EMKA" Chromo Prägepapier, (embossed paper) and "EMKA" Bronze-Prägepapier, as well as "Embossin" Chromo-Prägepapier, in a large variety (ca. 30 samples) of colours. Also added are two smaller sample booklets (75 x 12 cm), of "Excelsior" Aluminium-Folie, with the thin tin leaves variously embossed and/or printed with additional colours in various patterns (e.g., tulips, palm trees, holly leaves, etc). A sixth item included is a sample booklet (6.8 x 12.1 cm, dated 1938) of the Munich-based, Metallpapier- Bronzefarben- Blattmetallwerke Aktiengesellschaft, with a rainbow of 26 brightly coloured sheets, each finely embossed in in different patterns. In all a wonderfully varied collection, with all items, considering their age, in excellent condition, only a few leaves with slight, marginal wear. All are rare.
