Italy (?), ca. 1800-1850. A folio sheet of wove paper, each measuring over 35 x 44 cm. Loose, as issued.

A unique set of finely coloured sheets of painted paper, or papier dominoté (French) or Buntpapier (German), probably meant as endpapers for folio-sized books, as it contains a repetitive illustration or pattern, based on repeating wood block printing, or rolled printing, occasionally finished by hand. Possibly the work of Remondini, a firm of print publishers based in Bassano del Grappa and active from the mid-17th century to 1860. It consists of two, near identical bands. It is very rare to see a set of identical patterns. The edges are uncut, as issued; the right margin rather short. Some marginal fraying and chipping, weak, central vertical fold, one leaf with a larger tear in one side, otherwise excellent: the printing strong and colourful.
