Cassel, Theodor Fischer, 1877. Large 4to (28.8 x 22.7 cm). [i], 52 pp.; 16 double-sized lithographed plates with explanatory text leaves. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with four raised bands, gilt title and floral vignettes. Marbled endpapers. Sprinkled edges.

With double-sized plates of bones and whole skeletons, the latter reconstructed by the author, the German palaeontologist Rudolph [August Birminhold Sebastian] Ludwig (1812-1880) (see Adler). Dedicated to Charles Darwin, and including a new species called Alligator darwini. Provenance: With the red, black and gilt bookplate of the Swiss palaeontologist William Alexandre Ooster (b. 1816). Some plates lightly foxed, mainly to the blank versos. In all a very good copy in a nice binding. Rare. Adler II, p. 304. Not in Nissen ZBI.
