Swainson's major work on molluscan systematics with the introduction of many new genus and species names, and many fine engravings. The British zoologist (chiefly malacologist) William John Swainson (1789-1855) was responsible for several parts of Lardner's Cyclopaedia. Inscribed on the front free endpaper in an old hand (Dr. ... Marsh); stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) in the top margin of the front free endpaper recto and title page. Spine slightly sunned, some very light foxing in a few places, otherwise an excellent, clean copy, with the errata slip, which is very often lacking. Caprotti II, pp. 58-59 [222-223]. Although well-illustrated, not in Nissen ZBI.
