Weimar, Industrie-Comptoir, ca. 1800. Folio (ca. 23.5 x 19.0 cm, mounted on larger sheets). Collection of 12 hand-coloured engravings from Bilderbuch für Kinder, showing reptiles and amphibians. All framed and with their description in German added.

Part of the herpetological section, Amphibien, of the famous Bilderbuch, edited and published by Friedrich Johann Justin Bertuch (1747-1822), with finely engraved and hand-coloured plates. An attractive, varied suite, with lizards, snakes, crocodiles, and also the famous axolotl. The original text sheets are added. These are pasted on board with the German text up, therefore the French text is not always available in complete form. Included are plates 13-15, 21, 23, 25, 28, 33, 40-41, 43, and plate 205 "Verm. Gegenstaende", with eggs of birds and snakes, of the latter also hatchlings. Plates generally very clean, with bright, natural colouring. Very good copies. Nissen ZBI, 340.
