Matschie, P.
Die Fledermäuse des Berliner Museums für Naturkunde. I. Lieferung. Die Megachiroptera des Berliner Museums Für Naturkunde.
Berlin, Georg Reimer, 1899. Large 8vo (26.2 x 17.0 cm). 102 pp.; 14 lithographed plates including one in chromolithography; two maps. Publisher's quarter cloth with printed paper-covered boards.
A fine monograph and major revision, with detailed descriptions and illustrations. Includes new taxa. This is all that was published. The German zoologist Paul Matschie (1861-1926) "...studied mathematics and natural sciences at the Universities of Halle and Berlin, afterwards working as an unpaid volunteer at the Berlin Zoological Museum under Jean Cabanis (1816-1906). In 1892 he was in charge of the department of mammals at the museum, later becoming a curator (1895), and in 1902 attaining the title of professor. In 1924 he was appointed second director at the museum" (Wikipedia). Uncut. Light wear to board edges, several plates toned, as usual, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Nissen ZBI, 2736.
