A beautiful plate of a female southern plains grey langur, a long-tailed monkey from India, with her young. "They are considered sacred and some are used by Hindu priests for religious purposes" (Wikipedia). This wonderful, lively and accurate illustration was drawn and engraved by one of France's foremost natural history illustrators, Jean-Charles Werner (1798-1856). Published in the museum's Archives, Volume 2. A very good, clean copy. Nissen ZBI, 4560.
