London, Sowerby, 1829-1837. 8vo-sized (24.2 x 14.8 cm or slightly larger). Four engraved, dated, and finely hand-coloured plates.

This is a collection of four copper engravings of fine wild, European roses. The plates were published in the long-running series "English botany; or coloured figures of British plants", started in the 18th century and gradually expanded. The present plates are dated 1829 and 1837, and numbered 2594, 2595, 2601 [709**], and 2707 [705*]. One plate with a pale pinkish smudge on the lower half; some marginal creasing and soiling, but otherwise a very nice set. Nissen BBI, 2225.
