A finely illustrated work with new and previously poorly known fish - including goldfish - from the far east near the Russian - Chinese border, by the Russian ichthyologist, missionary and medical doctor Stepan or Stephan Ivanovich Basilewsky [also Vasilevskiĭ, Basilewski] (18? - ca. 1867). In the rear there are two more zoological papers: one on the occurrence and distribution of some southern Russian birds and mammals - Verbreitung einiger Säugethiere und Vögel in den Wolgo-Uralischen und Kirgisen-Gegenden, by Eduard Eversmann (title page and 15 pp.) - and Von Eichwald's malacological work, Zur Naturgeschichte des Kaspischen Meeres (title page, 39 pp., one finely engraved plate, showing shells). A few weak, mostly marginal spots, otherwise very good, clean. Rare. Dean I, p. 70; Mulder Bosgoed, 282 [both for Basilewsky].
