Palermo, [the author], 1924-1925. Five parts in five. Large 4to (35.2 x 25.2 cm). 73 pp. [13; 11; 17; 13; 19]; 91 plates [15; 26; 22; 18; 10] (several double-sized). Original uniform printed wrappers.

Only edition of a profusely illustrated contribution to the Quaternary (island) mammalogy and palaeontology of Sicily, in the Mediterranean. Written, illustrated and published by the Italian zoologist, malacologist, vertebrate palaeontologist and archaeologist Marchese Antoine de Gregorio (1855-1930) in his Annales de Géologie et de Paléontologie, livraisons 38-41, and 43. The first four are titled as follows: Parte I. Sull' Hippopotamus Pentlandi Falc.; Parte II. Sull' Elephas antiquus Falc. ( Melitensis Falc.); III. Sul genere Cervus; IV. Sui generi Sus, Bos e Bison; [Parte VI] (Microfauna) di mammiferi e altri vertebrati ( Myoxus, Lepus, Lagomis, Pellegrinia, Mustela, Crocidura, Lacertae Testudo etc.). The last part, on smaller mammals, is not numbered, perhaps because the material was from fewer localities (mentioned separately in the title), but as it discusses and illustrates Quaternary species of groups not included elsewhere, it seems logical to regard it as a part of this series. A Parte V, dealing with the genera Equus, Ursus, Hyaena, Canis, Erinaceus, Hystrix, Balaena, Balaenopteraand Orca (livraison 42) is not included. All parts are very rare. A few spine ends frayed or slightly chipped. A very good, clean set. Not in Nissen.
