Martius, [C. F. P.] Von
Beitrag zur Kenntniss der natürlichen Familie der Amarantaceen.
Halle, Academiae Caesareae Leopoldino-Carolinae Naturae Curiosorum, 1825. 4to (28.2 x 21.6 cm). 114 pp.; two folded tinted engraved maps, "Amarantacearum per Orbem distributio". Contemporary marbled, faux tree-calf boards. Label with gilt title on the spine.
This is the rare off-print and not just a part taken from the journal. A very good, early monograph of this plant family by the renowned explorer and botanist Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius (1794-1868). The two large tinted world maps show the distribution of the family, and, by coincidence, the two hemispheres (east and west) as known in 1825. Published in the society's Acta, Volume 13, but this is an offprint with its own title page. Rare. Some, mostly marginal foxing on a few text pages; the plates clean. A very good and uncut copy in a strictly contemporary binding. Stafleu and Cowan, 5525.
