First edirtion of a very rare work by the German-American botanist Frederick Traugott Pursh (or Friedrich Traugott Pursch) (1774–1820). Written in the form of a diary, starting on the 26th of May, 1807 and ending on October 1st of the same year. Well-written and plentiful of botanical notes and observations on the scenery, weather and people met with. Provenance: a dedication by the editor, the botanist Thomas Potts James (1802-1882) to the American botanist and educator, John Merle Coulter (1851-1928) on the first blank recto. With on the front pastedown a pictorial bookplate of the Thompson Institute, and their shallow blind-stamp on the title. Library number on front board and paper library pouch on inner rear board. First blank and title page slightly brittle at the fore edge; a few text corrections in an old hand, otherwise good. Do not confuse with the 1923 reprint. Sabin, 66729.
