The first nine plates, numbered 1-9 [of 62], of this beautifully produced work. Second edition, identical to the first. The author, Alire Raffeneau Delile (1778-1850) was a French botanist. "Delile participated in Napoleon Bonaparte's Egyptian Campaign where he described lotus and papyrus. Director of the Cairo Botanical garden, he wrote the botanical sections of Voyage dans la Basse et Haute-Égypte by Dominique-Vivant Denon. He made a cast of the Rosetta Stone which allowed the reproduction of its Greek and Demotic inscriptions in Description de l'Égypte" (Wikipedia). Edges uncut, therefore a little variable in size. Slight fraying and toning to the outer edges; margins and prints otherwise in a very good condition. Stafleu and Cowan, 1353.
