Papier dominoté [Colour-printed paper]
Three large, colour-printed sheets.
Germany or Austria, ca. 1830-1840. Large, folio sheets of wove paper, oblong (35.5 x 43.5 cm). Loose, as issued.
A nice set of finely colour-printed sheets. The result of a very long European tradition in paper printing. The subtle, floral patterns are quite attractive. The paper is quite thin, but not fragile. The origin of these prints is unclear - certainly European, and probably Italian, but we have not encountered anything quite similar before. One sheet with some faint discoloration. Median vertical fold, edges a bit uneven, with some fraying, and tiny chips and tears; these, however, only very close to the edges (one leaf a bit wrinkled near the edges), and otherwise very good: the printing strong.
