First (only?) edition of the only recent atlas of the reptiles and amphibians of Georgia (southwestern Caucasus and adjacent Black Sea coastal regions). Written by the Georgian herpetologist Teimuraz Alexandrovich Muskhelishvili (b. 1932). With 30 detailed plates by the famous Russian natural history illustrator Nikolai Nikolaevich Kondakov (1908-1999), showing animals in their habitats. Kondakov "redefined the relationship of science, nature and art" (Abrams). In total, 53 (sub)species are illustrated. Written in Georgian, with Latin nomenclature. A mint copy. Abrams, M. (1992).
